Transforming Public Access to Government Data for the Nation’s Largest County
One of the largest counties in the United States—serving over 10 million residents and managing 37 separate departments—faced a critical challenge: public data was fragmented, difficult to access, and scattered across multiple, disparate agencies. With growing demands for transparency and digital accessibility, the county needed a streamlined solution.
We managed the end-to-end development and rollout of the county’s first comprehensive Open Data Portal, consolidating thousands of datasets from disparate departments into a single, searchable online platform. Our team led the frontend design and development, prioritizing user-friendly navigation and accessibility for the public, researchers, and policymakers. We also executed the public launch and media relations strategy, generating broad media and public awareness and positioning the county as an early leader in open government initiatives.
The results were transformative. Public access to government data increased significantly, with a 60% rise in data requests fulfilled digitally. Internal departments reported greater efficiency in data sharing and collaboration, and the initiative received widespread local and national media coverage as a model for government transparency.
